Although the Saga continues to be Proton’s best selling model, the company is sticking to their promise of offering cosmetic and specification upgrades on every model at the mid point of their five-year life cycle.

This is the Saga FL, a facelifted Saga that now looks younger and more up-to date with a more prominent front grille and headlamp design that helps to create a wider, more aggressive stance.

Exterior cosmetic improvements include an all-new bonnet, redesigned front quarter panels and new front and rear bumpers.
Proton is keeping with current trends by fitting LED rear brake lamps that not only respond quicker to brake pedal input but also give it a more stylish appearance.

The other redesign element that combines aesthetic improvement with better appearance are side mirrors with integrated LED turn indicators.

With these upgrades, Proton is also making changes to the car’s specifications options and model variants, it is now offered as a 1.3-litre standard version or the more luxurious 1.3-litre executive model. The Base model and Special Edition have been removed from the line-up.

The 1.3 Standard manual is priced at RM37,998, as opposed to the current model which is sold at RM36,998, while the 1.3 Executive auto is RM43,298 compared to the existing model priced at RM41,998.

The Executive variant gets a new set of fog lamps that not only improve its looks but is also useful in low visibility situations such as heavy rain or fog. It also gets new alloy wheels, rear spoiler and side protection moulding.

The cabin gets all-new seat and door trim fabric that makes the passenger compartment more welcoming.

The FL Executive also gets a Radio/CD that comes with USB port and Aux for your other audio players. This range-topper also gets multi-functional steering wheel with radio controls.

“The Saga FL represents the new way of doing things at Proton. Instead of resting on the popularity and success of the existing Saga, the overwhelming public acceptance motivated us even more to make an already good model even better,” said Proton Holdings Berhad Group Managing Director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Mohamed Tahir.

He is targeting to sell 6,500 units of the Saga FL per month.

Syed Zainal also answered a lot of questions from the Media at the launch

Since its introduction in January 2008, the Saga has quickly risen to the rank of the second top selling model in Malaysia with a monthly average sale of 6,200 units and as of October 2010, the national carmaker has already registered some 204,150 units and received 245,030 bookings.

Wth the introduction of Saga FL Proton expects monthly sales volume to increase to 6,500 units and this will enable the company to achieve a targeted volume of 75,100 units in its 2010/11 financial year.
“The Saga FL is again a manifestation of PROTON’s commitment to provide Malaysians with exceptional value for money mobility in terms of affordability in ownership, practicality, style, level of features, and safety.”

The Saga FL is available in six colours; Tranquility Black, Solid White, Genetic Silver, Granite Grey and two new colours Blue Rock and Café Latte.

The booking fee for the Saga FL is RM500, and customers can view the car today onwards at all PROTON showrooms nationwide. For customers in Labuan, the Saga FL can only be viewed at showrooms from 17 December 2010. Customers who have already booked the Saga can also opt to top up the difference in price to acquire the new model.

The Saga FL comes with a three-year or 100,000km manufacturing warranty (whichever comes first).
