Twice champion setting conservative target after rule change

The all-new rules of the 2011 Perodua Eco Challenge is giving even the best teams a big headache but it seems they are relishing the extra work required to complete the project.

Twice champion of the Perodua Eco Challenge, automatic transmission category, Universiti Sains Malaysia is busy preparing the final design and specifications of their machine when we visited them last week.

Professor Horizon Gitano- Briggs said that the new rules require a lot more time to fulfill but they are making so with the available schedule and pressing ahead with the design at hand. VIDEO after the jump.

Perodua Driving Tips - Residential areas need more care

The majority of accidents involving pedestrians take place in suburbs which are usually packed with homes, schools and civic amenities.

The large number of people in these areas increases the likelihood of accidents while the number of young people and children further heightens the possibility of death and injury.

The best tip for driving in residential areas is to slow down, right down to about 30km/h so that you have more time to avoid a pedestrian that suddenly encroaches onto the road.

It also pays to look ahead as far as possible and identify possible places where pedestrians which includes young children may emerge.  High risk areas include schools, junctions, near shops and homes.

Keep a lookout for traffic calming devices such as speed bumps, islands, bollards and stripes as they are clues of danger zones. The moment you see these devices, follow the posted speed limits.

Remember that going slow is the best strategy for driving in residential areas.

2010 Top 5 concept car: Perodua Bezza

This is not an outlandish sports car but a fresh interpretation of what can be done within the accepted dimensions of a compact car.

The three-box profile is next to impossible to wrestle into a beautiful flowing shape but Perodua’s styling has done rather well.

Compact cars will be more important in the future as fuel prices soar, this is why we think anything that gives motorists a choice in this segment is an outstanding effort.

Perodua maintenance tip: Taking care of your car battery

Many car batteries are now offered as maintenance free but even these require some looking after, here are some basic tips for making your batteries last longer.

Please note that maintenance free batteries are sealed batteries which means they cannot be topped up with battery water - they may have vent holes on the top plate but do not try to pry anything open because there is a risk of injury from the chemical content of the battery, or explosion or electrocution or all three of the above.

For unsealed batteries you should
  • Periodically inspect the acid or electrolyte level in the battery and top them up with distilled water if they fall below optimum.

With any type of car battery, whether unsealed or maintenance-free,  you should do the following to help keep it working properly:
  •         Clean the cables. Disconnect the cables from the battery and clean them with a wire brush that has been doused in a mixture of  one tablespoon of baking soda in one cup of water.  The same mixture can be used to clean off the top of the battery. Rinse off well with cold water after cleaning.
  •  .       Lubricate the posts with some petroleum jelly to keep the cables and post corrosion free for a longer period.
  •   .      Check connections. Besides the connection between the cable and the posts, make sure that the battery hold down bar is securely in place. Not all cars have or need a battery hold down bar, but if yours has come so equipped, you will need to put it back in its proper place.

Perodua donates to flood victims in Kedah & Perlis

Perodua recently handed over RM20,000 in donation each to the Perlis State Government and Yayasan Belia Malaysia for distribution to the flood victims in Perlis and Kedah.

Perodua Managing Director Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh presented the cheques to Perlis State Housing, Local Government and New Township Development Committee Chairman Dr Por Choo Chor and Yayasan Belia Malaysia Chief Executive Officer En Mustapa Othman at a ceremony held at Perodua headquarters last week.

Thousands of people in Kedah and Perlis were affected by the floods in both states last month.

Aminar said Perodua empathises with those affected by the recent floods and hopes that the contributions will ease some of the financial burden faced by the victims.

Prior to this event, Perodua has also donated cash and in-kind to staff and dealers who were badly affected by the floods in the 2 states.
