KIA US recalls Sorento over brake issues, Malaysia not affected
KIA in the US is recalling certain 2010 Kia Sorento crossovers that were built between Sept. 14, 2010 trough Oct. 4, 2010 due to improperly machined brake calipers.
Apparently the machining allows brake fluids to seep out, leading to loss of braking performance. The first indicators are spongy brakes and eventually, if serious enough may lead to more pronounced loss of braking performance.
Malaysian Kia Sorento are not affected
US market Kia Sorento are sourced from the company's plant in Georgia while Malaysian Sorento are from South Korea
According to Naza-Kia boss, Datuk Syed HAfiz Abu Bakar confirmed that Sorentos destined for Malaysia are built in Korea and are the latest 2011 specs.
"Our cars were built two weeks ago and is still in shipment while the cars affected by the US recalls are Georgia-built previous specifications models, i.e. the 2010 versions.
"KIA executives have confirmed this and this is why we have not received any recall notifications from them," he added.
